Although there are usual areas where mud and dust like to collect, there are also areas in your home that are a little less obvious but that deserve some attention in order to keep your rental clean and get that security deposit back at the end of the Summer. A weekly sheet change on our beds seems like part of the daily rhythm of life after a busy week of adventuring, but mattress cleaning in Breckenridge is one of the less obvious suspects that requires care and attention just like the other problem areas in your home. Sleeping 8-10 hours a day on your mattress means that sweat, oils, and dead skin cells collect on your mattress over time. Scoop some of the mixture onto your mattress problem area, and scrub using a sponge till the stain is removed. If you have a tough stain—such as blood—that just doesn’t want to budge, blotting the area with hydrogen peroxide and then scrubbing the area well with a toothbrush should remove the stain.

3. Deodorize
Just as we use laundry detergent to make our sheets smell like they have been hanging outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine all day, its a good idea to give your mattress a treatment to remove any smells that may have accumulated over time. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender, to a cup of baking soda and sprinkle generously over your mattress. After letting sit for around 15 minutes, vacuum the mattress once more, removing the baking soda.

4. Flip It
Although not necessary for all mattress (check your mattress’ manufacturer instructions) it’s usually a good idea to flip your mattress to even out wear. To do this, simply flip it side to side and top to bottom. Once it’s flipped, repeat steps 1-3 to vacuuming, spot cleaning and deodorizing the other side of the mattress.

5. Cover it

Get rid of that dirt!

While it may seem like an intuitive first step, before you address any cleaning or polishing of your wood flooring, make sure to sweep, swiffer, or vacuum to remove all of the debris, dust, and dirt that is on the surface of your floor, or hiding in the corners. If you use a vacuum, make sure to use a felt or brush style head, so not to damage your floors. We instead suggest picking up a bottle of non-oil, hardwood-floor specific cleaner at your local grocery store for cleaning. Spray the cleaner on a sponge mop, or soft, clean cloth, and you’ll be set conquer those spill and spots on your flooring.

The final step – Polishing

Finally, after the first two steps are finished, it’s time to make your Breckenridge hardwood floors sparkle. Your local home improvement store should carry hardwood-floor specific polishing and buffing products, so grab a bottle and get ready to make your floors shine.

Since wood is a natural material affected by air temperature and moisture, check that the humidity in your home is approximately 35%-55% for an optimal environment for your hardwood flooring. Invest in a dehumidifier if you live in a particularly humid environment.

Next, sprinkle salt on the spill and let sit till the salt turns a pinkish color, and the area is almost dry.
One the stain is almost dry, vacuum the area, removing the salt.

Coffee Stains

No need to buy an expensive solution to clean your coffee stains! Just grab a few household items, and make your own stain remover.

As always, start off by first blotting the coffee stain with a clean rag, switching out rags if the first becomes too saturated.
Second, add ¼ cup white vinegar and 1 Tbsp. Dish soap to a spray bottle and fill the rest of the way with warm water.
Saturate the spill with the solution, and let sit for 10 minutes.
Lastly, blot the area once more with a clean rag removing the rest of the stain.

Ink Stains

Moisten a clean rag with isopropyl alcohol.
